Transit Tour - One Day in Hong Kong July 24, 2017

We had a long transit flight to Thailand in Hong Kong so we went out to explore the city of skyscrapers for a day!

From Airport to Kowloon
We prepared Hong Kong money before travelling.  As soon as we arrived at Hong Kong early in the morning of July 24th and finished immigration, we bought Octopus cards at the train counter in the airport. It was really easy to travel from the airport to the city.  It only took about 25 mins to arrive at our destination which was Kowloon station, the 2nd station from the airport.  We then took taxi for 5-10 mins to Victoria Harbour, separating Hong Kong islands (Central side) from Kowloon Peninsular.




We started walking around the harbour.  By that time, there were not a lot of people.  The skyscrapers that situated on the shore are beautiful.   We also saw a group of people exercising (slow moving Chinese exercise/dance).   After spending time there for a while, we moved on and bought Star Ferry tickets to cross Victoria Harbour to Hong Kong Island (Central side).







It started raining by the time we reached Central side.  We decided to walk to the mall next to the Ferry, have some drinks and relax at Starbucks.  Once the rain stopped, we came out and went on the Ferris Wheel to see the Hong Kong panoramic view. We also bought "Hop-on/Hop-off" bus tickets for the Kowloon area as we didn't have enough time to do the tour on Hong Kong Island.




We cruised back to Kowloon side, walked to Garden of Stars park and checked out the area.  In the park, there were statues, hand prints of movie stars such as Bruce Lee and exhibits that were decorated with movie star pictures.







Our next stop was Nathan Road where we also had lunch.  Sean found a restaurant at the top of a building so we went up there and had a good lunch with authentic Chinese food.










After lunch, we walked around Nathan road and took the tour bus around the city and ended the tour at Kowloon Station.  We rode the train back to the airport and was able to get some deposit money back from the Octopus cards.











We continued our journey to Thailand.  It was a short day trip but we got to see a glimpse of Hong Kong. We hope to come back one day to explore more of beautiful places in this vibrant city.

Rocky Mountain! It was one spot on my bucket list.  I had visited Canada 2 times previously, but had not visited this side of the country.  I always dreamed to ride the Rocky Mountaineer Train, but it was too expensive so I decided to fly to Calgary and do a road trip to Banff, Jasper, and Yoho. I was doing a lot of research about where we should visit and was nervous that we wouldn't see the same things I saw online.  Fortunately, I was beyond thrilled that we were able to see the unforgettable beauty of this region. August 6 We arrived yesterday August 5th in the evening and rested well for our journey next 5 days. This morning, we started the day off by driving to downtown Calgary visiting the  Wonderland Sculpture , a popular huge wired woman front sculpture .  It was during a Holiday so it was very quiet in the downtown. Universal Studios Dec 24-25, 2015

After the Bahamas cruise trip, we drove from Cape Canaveral to Orlando less than 1 hour.  This was the second time for the boys visiting this area but this time instead of Disney World, we were doing Universal Studios! Dec 24 We arrived and parked the hotel around 9 am.  The Universal Studios was across the street.  It was about 15 mins walk.  There were 2 parks, one was Universal Studios and another one was Island of Adventure.  Today we were doing Universal Studios.  After we got tickets and entered to the park, we started with something that we didn't have to wait for a long line :) Here was what we did.... Shrek 4 D - The animation was cute and fun.  Shrek was helping Princess Fiona from Lord Farquaad as he kidnapped her.   I heard a lot of kids or even adults laughed and screamed including me :) Transformers: 3D - The 3D battle ride of transformers was also fun.  There were a lot of fighting scenes. Japan (Tokyo - Hakone - Kawagoe) July 23-28, 2016

Japan was the first country I ever visited on a business trip in 1995.  Although we transited in Japan several times in the last 20 years but we didn't have a chance to make a trip until now.  I was really excited to come back again with my family. July 23 We arrived Tokyo/Narita Airport around 2:30 pm.  After managing to leave some luggage at the airport, we bought bus tickets from the airport to the taxi terminal near the hotel and took a taxi there.  There was no way to take a train or bus directly to the hotel we booked.  It was really interesting to see how Japanese worked for the bus system.  They were really organized and punctual especially when everyone loaded the luggage into the bus and the buses were on time perfectly. We checked in at our hotel, Sotetsu Fresa Inn Tokyo-Toyocho .  Second floor was where our room was located.  The room was pretty small for 4 people but it was typical in Japan.  Sean and Luke slept on bunk beds.
