Southern Laos (Champasak-Pakse) August 8-9, 2016

This was a quick and unplanned (waterfall) trip with my mom and family.  We were looking for something to do for a couple days.  Then my mom talked with the local tour company at 7 pm on August 7th and we left 6 am on August 8th!  Let's go!

Good thing for this short trip was I didn't have to plan anything.  We hired the same local tour company as when we visited Vang Vieng and Vientiane in 2012.

We were picked up at 6 am.  The first stop was for breakfast in Ubon Ratchatani.  I liked the foods especially Patongo or Chinese Doughnut as I didn't have it for a long time!  Yum!
We arrived the border of Thai-Laos in about 90 minutes from the breakfast place.  We walked across the border thru the under-ground bridge and the van was already in Laos side waiting for us!
Once the visas were granted and immigration process was done, we continued our trip see 3 waterfalls today.

Tad Pa Suam Waterfall
We arrived there just the right time for lunch.  The U shape of the waterfall reminded me of Niagara Falls.  The surrounding was peaceful.  The atmosphere would be awesome for nature lovers.
We also visited the village nearby where there were different ethnic group.  They made beautiful silk fabric, clothes and handmade items.  We did buy silk scarfs for souvenirs!

Tad Fane Waterfall
Wow! Tad Fane, where the waterfall came out from 2 sides over the steep cliffs, was very beautiful.  It was one of the tallest waterfalls in Southeast Asia.  I loved it and it would be nice if I had time to just sit, relax and enjoy the view longer.   Only thing I needed to say about this waterfall was I was nervous I would fall!

Tad Yuang Waterfall
Only 4 of us went down to see the waterfall (Sean, Luke, Fluke and I) while mom, sister and sister in law were waiting up there.  The way to the waterfall was a little bit scary.  The stairs were steep and aged.  Since it was a rainy season, the stairs were slippery as well.  Despite these obstacles, I was so glad we came down to see because it was amazing!  The kids and I liked it a lot. We were so close to the waterfall and a little bit wet.  We even saw rainbow!

In the evening, we had dinner by Mae Khong River.  I liked the place as it was quiet and beautiful at night.  I had a wonderful time with my family.  We ate a lot of fish!

The next morning, we visited Khone Phapheng waterfall where it was known as Niagara of Asia.  This was a biggest waterfall in Southeast Asia.  We walked around the area and we had to take a golf-cart ride to the waterfall.  Since it was rainy season, the water was not so clear.  My mom who came here several time said, the waterfall was more beautiful in the other seasons.  We may have to come back!

It was a short trip but we got to see several beautiful waterfalls.  The most important thing was we got to spend time with family.  If you love nature, peaceful surrounding and slow pace vacation/trip, you wouldn't be disappointed with Southern Laos.  Make sure you have at least 3 days!
